Return To The Forbidden Planet 2010
Drama Report- Autumn Term 09
The Autumn Term has been a very busy and successful term for the drama department. The main event was the senior production, Return To The Forbidden Planet, a joint venture with the music department. A fun and lively show with an 8 piece band playing hits from the 50s and 60s it was very well received by all who saw it and culminated with audiences dancing in the aisles.
The whole cast worked very hard and produced polished and confident performances. Special note should go to Connor Vickery for an outstanding performance as the bold and fearless Captain Tempest, and Dan Headlam as the smooth gliding robot Ariel. The 2 female leads were excellently played with Yalda Tomlinson as a sophisticated yet fierce science officer and Laura McLagan as the naïve and lovely Miranda. The production owed much of its success to the wonderful set and special light and sound effects all ably executed by a talented team of technicians and back stage crew.
In addition to the show, the department has hosted 2 IB mask workshops, an evening of IGCSE Drama and evening of LAMDA performances. All senior Drama students have also attended 3 theatre visits, the highlight being Billy Elliot which was particularly enjoyed by all who saw it.
Next term we look forward to more theatre visits, including the annual trip to The Woman in Black. There will also be an Arts Festival in the final week of term where a variety of performances will take place.
